Welcome to my blog

From WordPress, Blogspot and AdSense to an EmDash blog built with AI: Irwan Ibrahim reflects on his early blogging days and why he's writing again.

Aah, the nostalgic feeling of writing my first blog post. I used to have a blog back in the days of WordPress, Blogspot, and LiewCF, the pseudo-grandfather of blogging (and AdSense) at the time. The biggest motivation back then was, of course, money (or the lack of it).

I was a student, part of that first generation of “the internet can do it all.” Nothing could beat the potential of the internet at that time. Not even my Electrical Engineering degree, which I saw as a ticket to show that I could think, that I could achieve what was expected of a high achiever. But it was never my dream to become an electrical engineer. Not because I had no passion for it. I do love all things electrical. It just didn’t seem to hold the same vast potential as the internet did back then.

So blogging was my first time dipping my toes into that potential. And, inevitably, into the dream of passive income: AdSense money reaching my bank account at the end of every month, while I’m scrolling down Facebook’s timeline of my college friends.

Naturally, the blog talked about money. Mostly ASB(mostly due to my Malay root, trying to alleviate people’s financial education), saving money, making money, and what money could buy. Which, at that time, was an iPhone.

Fast-forward to today. I’m starting a new blog at the dawn of an AI world, where everything is AI-related. Even this blog, which runs on EmDash, supports AI natively. Deployed using AI, CI/CD set up by AI. This post, though, was typed out by my own fingers, so it would carry my voice, my thoughts, and my experience. Later, it’ll be polished by AI, for your reading pleasure.

I think that’s it for a quick recap of how I started blogging, and the start of a new chapter. Hope you’ll keep coming back for more.
